TRADITIONS
The Etawah Sitar Gharana taken from www.ustadji.net. The word gharana means "family". In relation to music, gharana refers to a family of musicians, a school of music or a musical lineage connected with the name of a particular person or place.
Whilst learning an instrument in a country other than its origin we feel it is important to make students aware of the rich heritage of Indian Music.
There are many customs and traditions which exist in Indian music which if followed help to respect the art-form and it’s cultural roots.
- We place emphasis on explaining the gharana teaching system and the guru-shishya parampara (teacher-disciple relationship) and helping students to appreciate that the pre-existing teaching methodology have changed with time. (about Gharanas)
- The correct use of terminology and pronunciation is also explained to students which help them to enhance the learning experience.
- Musical etiquettes play a strong part in Indian music and are also taught to the student.
